Thursday, June 10th, 2010

With international economies still struggling the flow on effect is households are also starting to struggle for money. It appears it would be in all households interests to try and pare back their spending as and where they can. One area that could stand reduced spending is the household clothing budget and making clothes to save money could be a way to begin.

There is a large proportion of people who just discard clothing that they decide they no longer fancy, wear or fit. Generally there is nothing wrong with the actual clothing itself. With a spot of clever reinventing, there is very little reason why an article of clothing that is no longer wanted by one member of the family could not be made to fit another.

Everyone likes to have clothing that helps them express how they see themselves. But as clothing becomes more and more mass produced it seems to be getting more and more challenging trying to locate garments that allow a person to dress to reflect themselves. The solution can be quite surprisingly simple. With material relatively still inexpensive and it being obtainable in a vast array of designs, shades and styles it is truly possible to create some spectacular one off items.

If you are a reasonably capable dressmaker, it is probably safe to say that you would be considerably proud of the garments that you make. Being proud of something you have made with your own hands is certainly a major factor in inspiring you wearing something more than once. Having garments that you are going to actually wear make up your wardrobe may potentially save you from buying clothes that you never end up wearing.

Although there are vast amounts of adorable clothing out there on the market for babies, the reality is that babies just grow so fast and never get the wear out the clothes you buy for them. By making a good proportion of a babies clothing needs for at least the first year of their life there is the potential to save a substantial amount of money.

Children grow just as quickly it seems these days as the price tags on the clothes they need to wear. Sometimes it seems to be a constant war to keep up with their never ending need for clothes. By taking a basic wardrobe and then expanding on it with items of clothing that have been handmade we might just start winning the war to keep them dressed.

Many of the accessories we purchase are like throw away items. Hats, scarves, gloves. These are reasonably easy to make and do not require great amounts of yarn to do so. Yarn comes in so many different styles and shades that it is really very possible to create fun and personalized style statements for the whole family.
